Syracuse University's school psychology PhD program equips students with research and practical skills to support children in educational and youth-focused environments. This program delivers exceptional doctoral training, enabling graduates to assist children both directly and through collaboration with parents, educators, and caregivers. It provides comprehensive doctoral education encompassing health service psychology (HSP) preparation, following the scientist-practitioner approach. Students learn to make evidence-based decisions, integrate multiple data sources, assess service effectiveness, and demonstrate cultural competence while honoring diversity.
Graduates meet all New York State certification and licensure standards. The program mandates at least one year of full-time residency at Syracuse University, plus two additional years of full-time study. Earning the doctorate requires a minimum of three years of full-time academic work.
