The doctoral program in educational psychology offers students the opportunity to collaborate with professors while exploring how learning theories, cultural influences, developmental stages, and behavioral patterns relate to educational environments. Housed within the expanding Department of Learning Sciences, our program brings together scholars from various disciplines.

Our Ph.D. program operates on an apprenticeship basis, matching each student with a faculty mentor during their initial year. Together with your advisor, you'll design a personalized study plan that aligns with your academic goals while meeting program criteria. We actively encourage students to connect with professors whose research specialties complement their academic pursuits.

When applying to the Educational Psychology, Ph.D. program, you will need to submit the following:

In 500-1000 words, summarize your skills and experiences that are relevant to graduate study in educational psychology. Address the fit between your objectives and the graduate training offered at Georgia State, including the fit with faculty member(s) with whom you would most like to work. Discuss what you would like to be doing three to five years after you receive your Ph.D.

Official Transcript: minimum 3.30 graduate GPA required for admission (applicants for concurrent master's/Ph.D. admission must have minimum 3.30 undergraduate GPA)

In addition, if English is not the primary language, official TOEFL or IETLS scores must be submitted to Georgia State University. TOEFL scores should be submitted using school code 5251 and IETLS scores can be submitted by selecting Georgia State University Graduate Admissions. Applicants must submit a minimum TOEFL score of 79 or a minimum IETLS score of 6.5 for graduate admission. Applicants who completed a degree within the United States, will not be required to take the English proficiency exam.
