Syracuse University offers outstanding prospects for students pursuing Quantum Information Science (QIS). At its core, this discipline explores quantum computing, which employs multilevel quantum systems (qubits) rather than traditional semiconductor bits. This breakthrough could transform diverse areas, from foundational research (quantum gravity, black holes, neutron stars, molecular behavior) to practical applications (encryption, data analysis, logistics, digital security, and machine learning). Currently, four faculty members specialize in this domain, collaborating with QIS experts at the nearby Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome, New York. Their work spans both experimental implementations of qubits and quantum computers, along with developing algorithms to solve previously unsolvable computational challenges across numerous fields.
