The Mathematics Education Ph.D. program equips graduates to thoroughly explore research and practice in mathematics and STEM education while cultivating leadership skills to promote equity in these fields.
This collaborative initiative between the Department of Teaching and Leadership and the Department of Mathematics offers students personalized guidance from both mathematics education specialists and broader education/mathematics faculty. These professors are deeply involved in studying mathematics instruction and learning, actively involving students in their research projects.
The program fosters a vibrant academic community, typically comprising about 10 doctoral candidates at different progression points, with roughly half coming from international backgrounds. Regular research seminars maintain strong connections between faculty and students.
Completion requires a minimum of 90 graduate credits post-bachelor's degree, including 9-24 dissertation credits. Full-time students often finish within 3-4 years after obtaining their master's, with part-time options available for working professionals, including current educators.
