Wichita State's Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in applied mathematics equips students for rewarding careers as research mathematicians in both public and private industries. This rigorous program offers specializations in applied mathematics, statistics, and applied mathematics-physics. To earn the 84-credit-hour doctorate, candidates must fulfill coursework, language proficiency, and residency obligations, successfully complete qualifying and preliminary exams, and produce an original dissertation in their chosen specialization. The curriculum requires a minimum of 36 credit hours from advanced mathematics, statistics, and physics courses (numbered 800 or higher). Previous master's degree coursework may apply, and up to 36 transfer credits from other institutions may be accepted with committee approval.
