The Literacy Education Ph.D. program equips graduates with advanced knowledge in cognitive, social, and critical approaches to language and literacy development.
Within the Department of Reading and Language Arts, participants will engage in meaningful research and publications, create cutting-edge curriculum and evaluation tools, influence literacy policies, and educate both current and future educators. Learners benefit from faculty mentorship through structured courses, independent research projects, and interdisciplinary offerings across the School of Education and University, tailoring their studies to focus on early literacy, adolescent literacy, or English language instruction. Students can participate in joint or solo academic presentations and publications concerning literacy, reading, and language arts topics.
This doctoral program mandates at least 90 post-baccalaureate graduate credits, including 9-24 dissertation credits. While part-time enrollment accommodates working professionals, including full-time teachers, students must complete 1-2 semesters of full-time campus residency.
