The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry is a rigorous undergraduate program combining coursework, lab training, and research components to equip students for graduate studies in chemistry and related fields, as well as careers in healthcare professions. Graduates from this American Chemical Society-accredited program qualify for positions in industrial and government labs across environmental, pharmaceutical, forensic, and biotechnology sectors.
Chemistry, the study of matter's composition, structure, properties, and transformations at atomic, elemental, and molecular levels, is taught through analytical, biological, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry courses, complemented by hands-on research experience. Chemistry majors can choose among three tracks: two Bachelor of Arts options focusing on either chemistry or biological chemistry, and one Bachelor of Science path. While both B.A. programs require fewer chemistry credits than the B.S., they still provide sufficient foundational knowledge for professional work or further education. Students pursuing the B.S. degree receive more comprehensive training by meeting additional requirements and must formally declare their intent to earn the B.S. degree through a department petition.
