The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry is a rigorous undergraduate program combining coursework, hands-on lab training, and research components to equip students for graduate studies in chemistry and related fields, as well as careers in healthcare professions. Graduates of this American Chemical Society-accredited program qualify for positions in industrial and government labs across environmental, pharmaceutical, forensic, and biotechnology sectors.
Chemistry - the study of matter's composition, structure, properties, and transformations, particularly at atomic and molecular levels - is taught through analytical, biological, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry courses, complemented by original research projects. Chemistry majors can choose among three tracks: two Bachelor of Arts options (with concentrations in either chemistry or biological chemistry) and one Bachelor of Science path. While both B.A. programs require fewer chemistry credits than the B.S., they provide sufficient foundational knowledge for either professional work or further education. Students pursuing the B.S. in Chemistry develop deeper expertise by meeting more comprehensive requirements, though they must formally declare their intent to earn the B.S. degree by submitting a petition to the department chair.
