Geography pairs well with complementary majors like international relations or biology, as well as degrees from other schools such as Newhouse School of Public Communications or Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science. Graduates pursue careers in diverse fields including emergency management, environmental agencies, GIS and cartography, urban planning, non-profits, community and international development, education, journalism, real estate analysis, environmental consulting, and more. The Geography Department provides undergraduate research opportunities.
Students typically apply for the MPA combined degree program in their junior year spring semester, after declaring their major and completing 75 bachelor's degree credits.
Prospective students should consult with the MPA program's admissions director prior to applying. Required application materials usually include two faculty recommendation letters (at least one from the student's major department), a resume, Statement of Purpose, and transcript. Syracuse University students are exempt from submitting GRE and TOEFL scores.
