Anthropology examines the full spectrum of human existence across time and cultures. Our undergraduate curriculum encompasses all major subfields: physical anthropology (human evolution and biological diversity), archaeology (investigating past societies through artifacts), linguistics (analyzing language structure, history, and social roles), cultural anthropology (studying modern communities), and applied anthropology (solving practical issues using anthropological approaches). Faculty and graduate researchers pursue diverse projects worldwide, from Jamaican slave communities to Indian women's development, Brazilian religious movements to Nepalese sustainable farming, Kenyan forestry to Syracuse's Underground Railroad. Research extends across South/East Asia, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and the Caribbean.
Students typically apply for the MPA combined degree program in their junior spring semester after declaring their major and earning 75 bachelor's degree credits.
Prospective applicants should consult with the MPA admissions director beforehand. Required materials include two Syracuse faculty recommendations (one from the major department), a resume, personal statement, and academic transcript. Syracuse students are exempt from GRE and TOEFL requirements.
