This multidisciplinary department provides opportunities for academic exploration, research, and community engagement in African American Studies, allowing students to examine cultural, literary, historical, political, socioeconomic, and other topics relevant to African Americans, along with connections to Africa and the Caribbean. The program offers both minor and major tracks culminating in a Bachelor of Arts degree, featuring coursework across social sciences and humanities disciplines. Prospective majors must complete AAS 112/ANT 112 satisfactorily for official admission to the African American Studies degree program.
