Oswego's geology programs equip students for diverse career paths or advanced studies in geology, engineering, and related disciplines. Approximately 25-33% of our alumni pursue graduate education, while others secure positions in environmental geology at consulting firms, corporate settings, and research labs. Graduates also find opportunities in petroleum, museums, education, materials testing, and other sectors.
The BS in Geology curriculum offers advanced elective courses and mandates either research or internship experience. Both BS and BA candidates must complete one year each of mathematics (including calculus), chemistry, and physics coursework.
Situated along Lake Ontario with proximity to notable geological formations like the Adirondacks, Catskills, Niagara Falls, Thousand Islands, and Finger Lakes, our program integrates extensive fieldwork and research opportunities. We actively promote student-faculty collaboration on independent research projects, supported by our comprehensive research facilities. Our greatest strengths lie in small class sizes and personalized student mentorship.
