The Plant Biology Program provides both Undergraduate and Graduate degree options for those passionate about studying plants scientifically. Our faculty specialize in diverse areas including plant anatomy, biodiversity, conservation, ecology, evolution, morphology, phylogeny, physiology, phytochemistry, and systematics.
Graduate students must complete at least 30 credit hours beyond their bachelor's degree, with a minimum of 22 hours in plant biology courses. This includes up to 9 hours of individualized instruction (with 2-3 seminar hours allowed) and 3-6 thesis hours. Students may need a graduate minor of 10+ hours, as decided with their advisory committee. Upon finishing their thesis, candidates must present their research publicly in addition to passing the comprehensive examination.
