The Coupled Natural and Human Systems (CNHS) field promotes cross-disciplinary research that combines social and environmental sciences through a systems perspective. Our work tackles the complex task of preserving both ecological and societal resources in the Anthropocene—the present age where human activity dominates Earth's systems. With varied academic backgrounds, CNHS scholars view people as inseparable from ecosystems, studying their interconnected relationships and transformation patterns across different levels. Faculty advisors create interdisciplinary partnerships to guide CNHS students, leveraging their collective knowledge. The program prioritizes hands-on research and graduate education focused on practical sustainability challenges in actual environments.
