Radiation therapy involves precisely targeted radiation to combat cancer and various medical conditions. Our JRCERT-accredited curriculum equips you with the expertise, practical abilities, and clinical training necessary to succeed on the ARRT certification exam and launch your career as a licensed radiation therapist.
Beyond classroom instruction, you'll complete 1,200 hours of clinical rotations at premier Boston medical centers, working directly with practicing professionals. Throughout your training, our dedicated faculty and clinical coordinator provide personalized guidance to ensure your success. Notably, over 30% of radiation therapists at our affiliated hospitals—including Massachusetts General Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute—are alumni of our program.
As a radiation therapy student, you will:
Administer precise radiation treatments using advanced equipment like linear accelerators and proton therapy systems
Develop critical thinking skills to address clinical challenges in collaboration with healthcare teams
Foster cultural competence to effectively serve diverse patient populations and work environments
Integrate knowledge of anatomy, patient care protocols, radiation physics, and technical operations simultaneously
Master empathetic communication techniques for patient interactions
Sophomore radiation science majors meeting prerequisite GPA standards may apply to the radiation therapy program. Freshmen receive preparatory advising to navigate the application requirements. The Radiation Therapy Committee evaluates all applications, including interviews, for junior-year admission. Graduates qualify for the ARRT exam and immediate employment, with most states requiring JRCERT accreditation for licensure. Transfer students and those from other majors meeting prerequisites may also apply—we encourage early consultation to verify coursework completion.
