Our program centers on mastering complex problem-solving. As a mathematics student, you'll gain expertise in numerical manipulation and applying mathematical theories to practical situations. Under the mentorship of our distinguished professors, you'll cultivate abilities to analyze information, detect patterns, and employ both logical and creative thinking to develop unique solutions.
Situated just minutes from Boston's Financial District and neighboring Cambridge's tech leaders, our program offers unparalleled access to top-tier employers for internships and career prospects. These valuable experiences will expand your professional connections and equip you for success in either the workforce or advanced academic pursuits.
Mathematics students will:
Employ deductive reasoning to derive conclusions from established principles and apply mathematical concepts to create solutions, Construct rigorous mathematical proofs to verify findings, Gain proficiency with computational and visualization technologies—including Wolfram Mathematica, MATLAB, and Maple—to enhance understanding and analytical capabilities, Study and present on scholarly articles relevant to coursework, Develop abstract reasoning by identifying universal patterns across diverse scenarios, Apply R programming for statistical evaluation of survey data.
Mathematics majors will achieve proficiency in fundamental areas like calculus, linear algebra, real analysis, and statistics while building computational and conceptual skills. The program offers two specialization tracks: pure mathematics or actuarial science, leading to either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.
Acquire both theoretical knowledge and applied skills in mathematics, statistics, finance, and economics for diverse career paths. Actuaries are in demand at insurance firms to evaluate risks and design improved coverage plans. Financial institutions, marketing agencies, and government organizations require professionals skilled in data interpretation, trend prediction, and risk assessment.
