The College of Business provides a Master of Science in Finance program. This specialized MS in Finance is a rigorous, selective curriculum designed for both finance professionals looking to enhance their skills and individuals from other fields aiming to develop financial expertise. Candidates will complete a structured 30-credit curriculum (10 courses) in finance, all instructed by the College of Business's top finance professors. The program features a culminating capstone course where students undertake a real-world finance project with corporate partners, integrating their knowledge into a comprehensive demonstration of program competencies. Graduates of Stony Brook University's MS in Finance program will be prepared for roles in banking, investment funds, corporate financial management, and regulatory sectors. The degree can be earned full-time within one academic year.

Qualification Requirements

A. A bachelor's degree with a minimum grade point average of 3.0.

B. Aptitude for quantitative analysis, demonstrated through previous coursework, standardized tests, or practical experience. All applicants must have successfully completed an introductory calculus course (MAT 123 or equivalent) with a grade of C or higher.
C. The GMAT/GRE are optional and should be used to enhance your application.
D. Three letters of recommendation, one of which, if possible, should be from a professional working in a private company or public agency who is capable of evaluating the applicant's motivation and potential. The three letters of recommendation should also include at least one from a college faculty member, counselor, or administrator. Letters of recommendation should be submitted through the application website.
E. Applicants whose first or primary language is not English, must submit one of the following:
An applicant must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 point scale.
A TOEFL internet-based score of 80 or above
An IELTS test with an overall score of 6.5 or above, with no sub-scores below 6.0F. Acceptance by both the College of Business and the Graduate School.
