The Sociology Department provides both Master's and Ph.D. programs. Our Ph.D. program holds national recognition, demonstrated by our graduates securing positions across diverse institutions - from research universities and prestigious liberal arts colleges to teaching institutions and various governmental/non-governmental organizations. Alumni have recently joined faculty at: University of Pittsburgh, University of North Carolina-Greensboro, SUNY-Brockport, California State University-Bakersfield, University of Memphis, University of Northern Colorado, along with postdoctoral roles at New York University and University of Stockholm, research positions at Yale University, and the United Nations Statistics Division. Located near New York City, students can enroll in courses at NYU, CUNY, Columbia University, and other neighboring institutions. The location also facilitates research into both global trends and local phenomena in New York City and Long Island. Beyond our comprehensive training in methodology, theory, and practical application, students can pursue supplementary certificates in programs like Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Africana Studies, and Data and Computational Sciences, among others.

Qualification Requirements

For admission to graduate study in Sociology, you must have a bachelor's degree or its equivalent and an undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or above. The following documents are required in order to apply:
