The Department of African Cultural Studies is dedicated to advancing scholarship and education in African languages and cultural expressions, both on the continent and throughout the global African diaspora. Our expert faculty cover diverse disciplines including literary studies, musical traditions, cinema, applied linguistics, theater arts, theoretical frameworks, diaspora research, and digital media.
As a unique academic unit in the U.S., we provide specialized graduate programs culminating in Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees for scholars investigating African cultural expressions. Our international student body represents numerous countries, with strong representation from across the African continent.
International applicants must have a degree comparable to a regionally accredited U.S. bachelor’s degree.
