The Interdepartmental Doctoral Program in Anthropological Sciences (IDPAS), offered through the College of Arts and Sciences, is a cross-disciplinary Ph.D. program that integrates expertise and resources from multiple departments including Anatomical Sciences, Anthropology, Asian and Asian American Studies, Ecology & Evolution, Geosciences, History, the Sustainability Studies Program, and the Turkana Basin Institute. IDPAS prepares graduates for academic and research careers in physical anthropology, archaeology, and cultural anthropology. Doctoral candidates who achieve candidacy status can petition to receive a master's degree without completing a thesis. Currently, IDPAS is not considering applications for cultural anthropology. This program incorporates the doctoral curriculum of the Anthropology Department within its interdisciplinary framework, collaborating with faculty from Anthropology, Anatomical Sciences, Asian and Asian American Studies, Ecology and Evolution, Geosciences, and History. Recognized for excellence, IDPAS consistently ranks among the nation's premier anthropology programs according to National Research Council evaluations based on scholarly output metrics.
