The Human Evolutionary Biology major is a collaborative program between the Departments of Anthropology and Ecology and Evolution. This interdisciplinary program combines natural sciences and anthropological perspectives to investigate how evolutionary processes have influenced human development. Foundational coursework establishes expertise in natural sciences, mathematics, and statistics while introducing three specialized areas: human evolution and physical development, primate genetics and genomics, and the evolutionary foundations of behavior. The human evolution track focuses on tracing our ancestral lineage through fossil records, anatomical changes, and cultural developments. The genetics concentration examines human diversity patterns, population genetics, ancestral migrations, adaptive traits, and comparative genomic studies across primates. The behavioral evolution specialization applies evolutionary principles to analyze modern human and primate psychology, social structures, life history strategies, and their biological underpinnings within ecological contexts.
