Qualification Requirements

For admission, an applicant is required to have an undergraduate or graduate degree in science, engineering, technology, math, or a related field, or be currently enrolled in a graduate program in one of those fields, or be working or have a history of having worked as a scientist or a science communicator. The applicant must have had an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.
An applicant must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 point scale.
The Advanced Graduate Certificate in Communicating Science (12 credits) complements ongoing graduate degree work at Stony Brook University. To apply you must be enrolled in a graduate program at Stony Brook University.
A personal statement (300-500 words) - In a short essay, applicants should describe why science communication is important to the work they do, their reasons for applying to the AGC in Communicating Science Science, and how they feel as though this certificate would advance their future career goals.
