The Master of Laws (LLM) in Environmental Law and Policy (ELP) delivers comprehensive interdisciplinary education in environmental, energy, and natural resources legislation and governance. This focused curriculum aims to equip international legal professionals with specialized skills in policy analysis and legal frameworks to tackle challenges like pollution, hazardous materials, climate change, energy systems, water resources, biodiversity conservation (both terrestrial and marine), land management, and environmental impact evaluation. Admitted students will follow a customized course selection primarily from the Law School's environmental and public policy offerings, with opportunities to incorporate relevant classes from other university departments. The program is ideally suited for practicing attorneys in both private and public sectors who seek advanced interdisciplinary knowledge to advance environmental and resource legislation in their home countries or globally, while joining an alumni network addressing comparable issues. It also serves as excellent preparation for those planning to pursue a JSD at Stanford or other institutions with research interests in these areas. Admission to the LLM in Environmental Law & Policy requires a non-U.S. first law degree, and typically mandates at least two years of professional legal experience prior to enrollment.
