Our Master of Arts candidates take nine advanced courses while working closely with departmental professors. Students can focus on one of 14 specialized areas: African studies, British history, Early Modern European studies, East Asian history, Jewish historical studies, Latin American history, Medieval European studies, Modern European history, Ottoman and Middle Eastern studies, Russian/Eastern European history, History of Science/Technology/Environment/Medicine, South Asian studies, Transnational/International/Global history, and U.S. history. Those pursuing a terminal M.A. degree need faculty guidance to approve their academic plan. Candidates must submit their study proposal to the Graduate Program Coordinator during their initial quarter. The program requires completion of at least 45 units (with a minimum of 35 units in History courses), equating to no fewer than 9 courses for the M.A. degree.
Applicants from colleges and universities of recognized standing who hold a U.S. bachelor's degree or its equivalent are eligible to be considered for admission for graduate study. English Proficiency: TOEFL - Your minimum score must be 100 (internet based) OR 600 (paper based).
