The Transnational, International, and Global History (TIG) graduate program enables students to explore historical themes that cross political or cultural borders, linking different world regions. TIG scholars can investigate diverse subjects emphasizing the relationships between nations, institutions, and systems, along with the global spread of ideologies, customs, and traditions. Research opportunities also extend to multicultural or multinational areas like the Mediterranean, Indian Ocean, Central Asia, Pacific Rim, or Atlantic World. During early studies, TIG candidates take courses in transnational historical methodologies, critiques, and scholarship, plus at least two regional history specializations. With faculty guidance, students subsequently design, investigate, and compose a dissertation. Typically, doctoral candidates complete degree requirements between four to six years, though duration depends on prior academic background and specific language/research demands of their chosen specialization.
