The graduate program in science history provides opportunities for students to focus on the historical analysis of scientific developments, technological advancements, environmental studies, and medical practices, exploring their societal, cultural, intellectual, economic, and political dimensions. Our faculty comprises experts whose research spans numerous eras from ancient times to the modern day, covering diverse regions such as Europe, Africa, the Americas, the Middle East, and East Asia. Alongside core history of science courses, students select a specific geographic or national focus for their research. The curriculum encourages interdisciplinary collaboration, with students frequently engaging with faculty across the university—including science departments, Philosophy, Classics, Anthropology, English, and various language and regional studies programs. Typically, doctoral candidates complete their Ph.D. requirements within four to six years, though duration may vary based on undergraduate background and the specific language or research demands of their chosen specialization.
