Cultural and societal journalists must grasp social movements, human behavior-influencing traditions, and societal frameworks. They also require research abilities to gather, assess, and convey pertinent data. The dual Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and Master of Arts (M.A.) in Journalism and Sociology enables specialization in these fields, completing both degrees within five years of full-time study. During undergraduate Journalism studies, students take four approved Sociology graduate courses that count toward their bachelor's if they choose not to pursue the master's after four years.
This B.S./M.A. program teaches students to gather, examine, and present information about contemporary global society's cultural shifts and structures. The interdisciplinary approach enhances interview techniques and comprehension of sociocultural terminology. Students also acquire research competencies for handling extensive behavioral data sets. These program-developed expertise prepares graduates for diverse careers in media, journalism, social platforms, non-profits, marketing, and public relations, among others.
