Legal professionals provide counsel and advocacy for individuals, businesses, and government entities regarding legal matters and conflicts. They serve dual roles as both legal representatives and consultants. Lawyers may focus on a specific legal field or maintain a general practice across multiple areas.
The integrated Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Juris Doctor (J.D.) program enables students to finish their education in six years, obtaining an undergraduate degree from St. John's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences alongside a law degree from St. John's School of Law. This accelerated program requires completion of at least 93 undergraduate credits in the initial three years, with students transitioning to law school in their fourth year. First-year law courses count toward both degrees. After successfully completing the first year of law school with a minimum 2.0 GPA, students receive their bachelor's degree. The Juris Doctor is conferred upon finishing the full law curriculum.
Prospective students should meet with St. John's College Pre-Law Advisors to learn about applicable majors and obtain application details.
Licensing regulations differ by state. While St. John's University confirms New York requirements, it does not verify other states' standards. Students living or planning to live outside New York should contact their state's licensing board for guidance before enrolling.
