SIUE's School of Education, Health and Human Behavior provides an educational leadership program. The Department of Educational Leadership at SIUE features two doctoral tracks leading to an Education Doctorate (EdD) in educational leadership: the District-level/superintendent leadership path and the General school leadership path. The general school leadership path caters to educators (including teachers and other education professionals) aspiring to leadership roles at the school or organizational level rather than district administration. Doctoral candidates gain specialized skills in applying research to transform schools and learning institutions to enhance educational results. During the initial two years, general school leadership students follow a core curriculum without pursuing superintendent certification. Following this foundation, both general school leadership and district-level leadership students engage in a year of advanced studies focusing on school law, policy development, and research methodologies. The program culminates with a mandatory research-based capstone project. Typically, students complete the advanced coursework and capstone requirements within two additional years.
