At SIUE, early childhood education students gain practical experience by implementing theoretical knowledge in real classroom settings. We maintain small class sizes to ensure faculty can offer individualized guidance to each student.
This program prepares graduates for Illinois teaching certification covering birth through second grade, while also offering a non-certification track for roles in preschool and infant/toddler programs where licensure isn't mandatory.
Students engage in diverse hands-on learning opportunities:
Interactive classroom exercises
Simulation-based training (including virtual scenarios via the Virtual Professional Practice Lab)
Real-world case analysis
School collaboration initiatives
Undergraduate research projects
Community-based learning experiences
Our curriculum heavily incorporates off-campus learning through educational visits, supervised teaching practice, and student teaching placements.
