SIUE's art history program is structured to provide students with comprehensive knowledge of visual art traditions while allowing focused study in particular art historical specialties. The curriculum fosters critical thinking and analytical skills for both written and oral evaluation of visual works. Three dedicated art history professors deliver courses spanning prehistoric to modern art, catering to both beginners and advanced students. Instruction takes place in two technologically equipped classrooms within the modern Art and Design West facility. Additionally, students can utilize the art history resource center, stocked with research aids such as video materials, publications, periodicals, and a digital image collection.
