Workforce Education and Development ranks among the biggest programs of its type nationwide, serving 1,000 students across 15 sites and celebrating more than 18,000 graduates from both military and civilian backgrounds. Prospective students need only meet standard college admission requirements and possess two years of professional experience in their chosen field to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Workforce Education and Development. Flexible enrollment options include full-time and part-time study. Depending on prior community college credits, military training, and other qualifying experience, students may complete their degree with just one year of full-time coursework in the WED program.
The off-campus curriculum mirrors the on-campus experience at SIUC, with scheduling adaptations to accommodate working professionals, government employees, and military personnel. A dedicated on-site faculty coordinator oversees instruction delivered by local representatives, visiting campus professors, weekend instructors, or regional adjunct faculty. While originally designed for active-duty service members, this program structure also proves ideal for full-time working professionals.
