A chemistry degree provides a strong base for diverse careers in science, business, and professional fields, spanning areas like agricultural chemistry, biochemistry, forensic science, materials science, medicine, patent law, and renewable energy, among others. Students should consult with an academic advisor to tailor their coursework to align with their professional aspirations.
All Chemistry students initially enroll in the Comprehensive Chemistry track, offering an intensive curriculum with advanced training in analytical, organic, and physical chemistry. Following their first year, those pursuing a Bachelor of Science in the College of Agricultural, Life, and Physical Sciences may continue with Comprehensive Chemistry or choose a specialized pathway such as Biochemistry, Environmental Chemistry, or Forensic Chemistry.
While not mandatory for graduate programs or chemistry careers, students are advised to consider obtaining certification from the American Chemical Society. Those who complete an honors thesis may qualify for Chemistry Honors recognition.
