The program aims to offer (1) advanced training for graduates pursuing careers at community mental health centers, the Arkansas State Department of Human Services, and similar organizations, (2) supplementary coursework for other master's programs, and (3) educational opportunities for bachelor's degree holders.
The clinical and mental health counseling master's program equips students with both clinical and developmental counseling expertise while fulfilling Arkansas' licensing criteria for Licensed Professional Counselors. Degree candidates must acquire the necessary abilities to deliver individual and group counseling services across various settings including mental health facilities, community organizations, private practices, and corporate environments.
Each student's curriculum is tailored to satisfy current Arkansas licensure regulations. Southern Arkansas University cannot guarantee that its program will meet future licensing requirements if state standards change after a student's enrollment. Completing this master's program does not automatically result in professional licensure.
Students should have a bachelor’s degree completion.
