This program fulfills the requirements for an Associate of Arts (AA) degree with a specialization in Environmental Studies. Serving as a pre-major track, it equips students to transfer as juniors to four-year institutions to pursue bachelor's degrees in environmental studies or similar disciplines. While the environmental science path caters to those aiming for scientific careers in areas like pollution control, water management, ecosystem conservation, environmental rehabilitation, and resource management, the environmental studies approach offers a wider perspective. This major delivers a comprehensive interdisciplinary understanding encompassing business, economic, social, and political dimensions of environmental issues, with particular emphasis on policy, legal frameworks, and societal impacts. Students gain fundamental natural science knowledge while concentrating more on social sciences, policy analysis, environmental design, and humanities. Graduates typically pursue careers in non-profits, government organizations, urban planning, sustainability consulting, eco-friendly businesses, environmental education, green journalism, and related sectors. Regardless of your professional path, this program instills an environmental mindset applicable to any future career.
