The Early Childhood Education program caters to those pursuing or already engaged in careers with preschool-aged children, focusing on developmental stages from birth to school age. It blends contemporary research with hands-on approaches to help students maximize their impact with young learners. Key program elements include child development, age-appropriate teaching methods, cultural inclusivity, family engagement, and professional growth in ECE. To accommodate diverse student schedules, classes are available mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends, with careful planning to help students fulfill program requirements efficiently.
Students completing an Associate degree with 24 ECE units and 16 general education units become eligible for a Teacher Permit from the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. This credential is mandatory for instructors in state-funded child development programs under Title 5. All major courses require a C grade or higher, and at least half the ECE units must be completed at Skyline College to earn the AS degree in ECE from the institution.
