The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Public Health program prepares students to tackle critical health issues, such as disparities linked to race, gender, and sexual orientation, infectious and chronic diseases, food and water security, sanitation, and environmental concerns. Simmons University has earned national acclaim for offering Public Health majors a strong theoretical and practical framework to examine the connections between health, science, and society.
During their Public Health studies, students will discover a specialized area aligned with their interests, abilities, and desire to create meaningful change—paving the way for a fulfilling professional journey.
Graduates will gain the ability to recognize contemporary public health challenges both domestically and internationally. They'll examine real-world scenarios involving health concerns (such as food contamination, water quality, immunization, physical activity and weight management, and toxic substance exposure) through case analyses. Learners will also develop research papers and deliver presentations highlighting current public health matters.
Students will acquire skills to evaluate public health statistics, contextualize health problems within epidemiological frameworks, and present findings on disease investigation methods—covering observational research, antimicrobial resistance, vaccine efficacy, monitoring systems, disease elimination, and epidemic investigations.
Through case study evaluations of health topics (including newborn survival rates and weight-related conditions), students will examine how factors like gender, racial background, cultural identity, economic status, and wealth distribution contribute to health disparities.
The program enables comparisons between public health systems in industrialized and developing nations regarding illnesses transmitted through food and water. Participants will conduct comprehensive literature analyses and develop detailed case examinations.
