As an Environmental Studies major at Seattle University, you can: Customize your degree path. Select from four focus areas: Urban Sustainability; Policy, Politics and Justice; Environmental Education and Communication; or Ecological Systems – or create your own concentration. Examine human-environment interactions – tackling challenges affecting diverse ecosystems, from urban spaces to wilderness areas. Approach sustainability issues through an equity framework – developing foundational knowledge in science, humanities, and social sciences. The Environmental Education and Communication Specialization prepares students with the expertise to foster environmental awareness and action through teaching, media outreach, and public engagement initiatives. The curriculum blends theoretical foundations with practical applications, covering both conventional educational methods and contemporary communication tactics. Local internship possibilities include environmental education facilities, park systems, and nonprofit organizations throughout the Puget Sound area.
