The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Visual and Critical Studies program at Chicago's School of the Art Institute (SAIC) offers rigorous academic exploration within an artistic setting. Throughout your studies, you'll examine relationships between visual arts and diverse fields including history, philosophy, psychology, and natural sciences.
Graduates often continue their education in humanities, museum studies, or arts administration, or enter fields like communications, education, public service, activism, media, or journalism.

While sharing many courses - including at least 39 studio hours - with BFA students, you'll follow a specialized curriculum of seminars, research projects, and coursework. Foundational classes equip you with analytical tools to investigate visual culture's connections to social, economic, and material contexts. The program offers electives in studio practice, art history, writing, and liberal arts, with emphasis on visual/media literacy, cultural theory, and global perspectives.
