The demand for residential and commercial construction is a constant in every society. As local, state, and national infrastructure development and maintenance lag, the construction industry will see increasing demand. With the current national shift toward "Green" or Sustainable practices, acquiring training in environmentally friendly job skills is essential. Furthermore, the recent integration of building science into the construction field means that all workers, contractors, and designers must learn new building performance standards.
The Construction Technology Department at Santa Barbara City College provides thorough training for entry-level industry roles, intermediate and advanced instruction for current workers, and specialized education in green building and building science for architects, contractors, and individuals starting in the construction trades.
Full credit is awarded for every course completed successfully. Students who finish the required 41.1 units of Construction Technology coursework receive a Certificate of Achievement in Construction Technology. Those who additionally fulfill Institutional and General Education requirements obtain the Associate in Science degree in Construction Technology. The department maintains an open-door policy for all courses, welcoming both majors and non-majors.
