Philosophy cultivates a rigorous, analytical grasp of fundamental concepts like knowledge, reason, truth, and value. As these concepts underpin all academic disciplines, philosophy is indispensable for a well-rounded education. The field also offers measurable academic advantages—research shows philosophy students consistently outperform others, scoring at least 5% higher on average in professional and graduate school entrance exams across America. No other discipline demonstrates this level of consistent success. In business and management school admissions tests, philosophy students rank second only to mathematics majors in performance.
The Philosophy Associate in Arts for Transfer degree equips students with core knowledge for seamless transition to bachelor's programs at any CSU campus. This specialized transfer degree (AA-T/AS-T), offered at California Community Colleges, guarantees admission to a CSU institution in a related field (though not necessarily a specific campus). AA-T/AS-T graduates receive priority consideration for similar CSU programs and enjoy GPA advantages when applying to competitive campuses or majors. Prospective AA-T/AS-T students should consult a counselor for detailed program guidance.
Graduates of high schools or equivalent are eligible for admission, with the equivalent of a GPA of 2.0 or better.
