The Environmental Studies Program offers an interdisciplinary approach to exploring Earth's living and non-living systems and their interactions with humanity. Classes in biology, earth sciences, and history establish fundamental knowledge about biological systems (covering topics like population dynamics, ecosystems, and toxicology), geological phenomena (including energy sources, natural hazards, and contamination), and humanity's evolving relationship with nature (providing historical insights into contemporary environmental challenges).
This curriculum helps students recognize the profound interdependence between humans and their surroundings, revealing how our actions both shape and are shaped by environmental factors.
Environmental literacy has become crucial in modern society. Professions in conservation, urban planning, corporate sustainability, renewable energy, waste reduction, environmental law, and policy-making all demand expertise in ecological systems and environmental concerns. Pursuing these career paths may necessitate further specialized education in fields like biology, earth sciences, or public policy.
