Economics examines how individuals and societies make decisions about producing, distributing, and utilizing resources.
Santa Barbara City College's program aims to provide a broad comprehension of global economic conditions, particularly focusing on how the U.S. economy operates and contrasts with other systems. Students explore topics including corporate structures and financial systems, national economic output, market fluctuations, competitive markets versus monopolies, income distribution, and labor challenges. Those pursuing an Economics degree should complete two semesters each of Principles of Economics and Accounting as foundational courses for transferring to a bachelor's program.
Since transfer prerequisites differ across institutions, students must meet with their academic advisor and department counselor when designing their transfer curriculum.
Graduates of high schools or equivalent are eligible for admission, with the equivalent of a GPA of 2.0 or better.
Students must be 18 years or older by the start of the semester without restrictions.
