SJSU's Occupational Therapy Department provides the longest-running accredited OT program within the California State University system. Established in 1943, the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) program caters to individuals holding bachelor's degrees in other disciplines. This curriculum prepares graduates with the knowledge and credentials required for occupational therapy practice. After finishing the MS in Occupational Therapy, including passing OCTH 201A and OCTH 201B courses, graduates become eligible to take the national certification exam. Passing this exam allows candidates to pursue national certification and state licensing.
U.S. bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, or the completion of a 4-year bachelor’s degree from a recognized, accredited, and approved institution from a country outside of the U.S. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on 4.0 scale) in the last 60 semester units (or 90 quarter units) of coursework and a minimum grade of B or better for all prerequisite courses. Minimum of 80 hours volunteer experience or equivalent paid work experience in 2 different types of therapeutic settings; 60 of the hours must be completed under the supervision of an occupational therapist.
English Language Proficiency: IELTS: 6.5; TOEFL – 89 (IBT), paper based – 573, Computer based – 233; Pearson Test of English (PTE) – 53. Combined minimum GRE score of 297, minimum GRE verbal score of 153, and minimum writing score of 4.5 is desired. As an alternative to the GRE exam, a minimum score of 400 or above on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is required.
