The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering oversees the Master of Science program in Human Factors/Ergonomics (HF/E), a collaborative initiative with the Departments of Psychology, Industrial Design, and Kinesiology.
Human factors/ergonomics focuses on advancing and implementing human-system interface technology for system analysis, design, and assessment. This field addresses human-machine interactions (hardware ergonomics), human-task relationships (workplace ergonomics), human-environment dynamics (environmental ergonomics), human-software connections (cognitive ergonomics), and organizational-machine systems (macro-ergonomics). Professionals in this field create design standards, methodologies, and tools while applying interface technology to ensure work systems align with human operators' needs and capabilities.
U.S. bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, or the completion of a 4-year bachelor’s degree from a recognized, accredited, and approved institution from a country outside of the U.S. A 2.5 GPA (from the 0.0-4.0 U.S. grading scale) in the last degree completed or a 2.5 GPA in the last two years of full-time study.
