The Department of Computer Science offers a Master of Science in Computer Science program designed to deepen expertise for higher-level industry roles or community college instruction.
This graduate program enables students to expand their understanding of both theoretical and practical computing subjects, equipping them for senior technical or research careers. The curriculum requires completion of six advanced courses, two elective options, and a two-semester project component. Typically, full-time candidates finish the degree within two years. Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree in computer science or a closely related field. To maintain personalized attention and optimal learning conditions, enrollment is restricted and admission is selective.
Students are expected to have a bachelor's degree in computer science or its equivalent, e.g., a degree presenting at least the breadth and depth of the SJSU BS, Computer Science program. An applicant holding a recent bachelor's degree in Computer Science from an ABET-accredited university will normally meet the course requirements for admission to the MSCS program.
