The Computer Science program provides a comprehensive and adaptable curriculum, equipping students with the foundation for advanced studies across the diverse spectrum of computer science disciplines. This field focuses on creating, evaluating, and executing computer systems, along with applying computational methods to nearly every academic discipline and practical application. Computer systems vary from miniature embedded devices to expansive global networks. Computer science research combines mathematical theory, practical experimentation, and system prototyping. Acknowledging statistics' cross-disciplinary role in computation, UCI established a standalone Statistics Department that became part of the Bren School of ICS in 2003. As an evolving area within information and computer sciences, Statistics faculty contribute expertise in statistical theory and methodology development for problem-solving. UCI researchers specialize in creating and investigating techniques for gathering, processing, understanding, and showcasing empirical data. Statistical concepts and approaches play a crucial role in addressing challenges across public policy, healthcare, business, and nearly all scientific domains.
