The MS Chemistry program caters to individuals aiming to enhance their expertise in chemical research or those seeking preliminary graduate experience before pursuing a PhD. The curriculum focuses on, though not exclusively, mastering advanced laboratory methods, utilizing cutting-edge instrumentation, gathering and analyzing data, as well as developing research planning and execution skills in chemistry.
Students must have a bachelor's degree be in chemistry or an intimately related science (e.g., chemical physics, biochemistry, materials science). In all cases, however, incoming students must have had the equivalent of 40 semester units of undergraduate chemistry including at least 10 units of general chemistry, 10 units of organic chemistry, 4 units of analytical chemistry, and 4 units of physical chemistry. A grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the chemistry coursework is preferred. In addition, admission to the Chemistry MA program requires the general GRE and at least two, but preferably three, letters of recommendation.
English Language Proficiency: IELTS: 6.5; TOEFL – 80 (IBT), paper based – 550, Computer based – 213; Pearson Test of English (PTE) – 53.
