The Digital Media Art MFA program at CADRE Institute embodies Silicon Valley's cutting-edge spirit. Its curriculum blends artistic exploration with historical, cultural, and theoretical foundations, designed for students passionate about modern creative research. CADRE's vibrant community of scholars and artists creates works spanning visualization, simulation, hypertext, data mapping, telepresence, networking, and interactive installations. Prospective MFA candidates should showcase substantial artistic achievement in a related discipline, accompanied by a statement outlining their conceptual approach and study objectives.
This three-year MFA program combines seminars, art history courses, studio work, and independent research. Progress evaluations occur through open faculty critiques and exhibition presentations, culminating in a mandatory thesis show at the University Art Gallery. Cross-disciplinary coursework outside Art and Design is encouraged. SWITCH, CADRE's digital media art journal, offers publishing experience, while state-of-the-art facilities support work across visualization, animation, digital video, multimedia, electronic sculpture, sound, and VR. CADRE's dedicated network infrastructure provides exceptional opportunities for internet-based art creation.
