The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program, provided by the Department of Teacher Education, equips students to implement equitable teaching methods, foster cultural awareness, deliver democratic education, and gain subject mastery for teaching in both urban and suburban school settings. Every course in the program trains participants to effectively teach multilingual students and those with disabilities within inclusive classrooms. Students will additionally develop skills to create nurturing learning spaces grounded in social-emotional learning concepts and participate in team-teaching opportunities alongside experienced mentor educators. The program culminates with students conducting and presenting classroom-based research projects. This MAT degree is awarded alongside a teaching credential and cannot be pursued as an independent graduate program.
